Program:《The Barefoot Door-gods》

"The Barefoot Door Gods" is a contemporary puppetry production newly created by the Not Just Puppets troupe in 2023, featuring the delightful and exquisite puppetry based on the legendary tales of the Door God Temple in Luermen, Tainan.
The storyline revolves around the real-life legend of the Door God Temple in Luermen, Tainan. "The Barefoot Door Gods," situated at the Luermen harbor, is the only "Dutch" door god in Taiwan. The story follows the two blond, blue-eyed door gods who yearn for a pair of good walking shoes. Their quest for shoes evolves into a whimsical adventure. Through humorous interactions between the door gods, elves, and deities, and with puppetry performances on stage, an entertaining adventure unfolds. This production, well-received and now adapted for the third time to incorporate local characteristics, combines the essence of traditional culture with modern puppetry performance, adding depth and humor to the story, making it suitable for audiences of all ages to enjoy together.

Synopsis:
Dressed in the "Number One Shoes" - the Dutch Door Gods are ready to make a grand entrance! After years of tirelessly guarding Luermen, the two door gods have had enough of sore feet from standing for so long. They reach out to the temple deity in their dreams, expressing their wish for a comfortable pair of shoes to wear. Little did they know, the temple's followers rush to donate new shoes, leading to a chaotic "Shoe Donation Battle Royale." With mischievous stone lions, disciplined arhats, playful carp, and more joining in the chaos, will the door gods' wish for new shoes be fulfilled? This contemporary puppetry interpretation of Taiwan's unique history, "Door Gods Changing Shoes," marks the beginning of a fantastical journey.
